Why Women-Led Companies Enjoy Exceptional Success

Akorbi is a success story born of hard work, persistence, talent, and a bit of good timing. Claudia Mirza founded Akorbi in 2002 after the dot-com bust forced her to look for other opportunities. Since then, Akorbi turned into a language industry powerhouse as one of the fastest-growing women-led companies in America. Today’s blog from Akorbi highlights why women-led companies succeed in many facets of business leadership and profitability.

Increased Profitability

Several studies show that women in top-level leadership roles, either as executives or on the board, lead to increased profits. After examining nearly 22,000 publicly traded companies in 91 countries in a mix of sectors, the Peterson Institute for International Economics showed that having at least 30 percent of C-suite positions filled by women adds an average of 6 percent to a company’s net profit. Between 2002 and 2014, a total of 80 firms on the Fortune 1000 list had women CEOs. Those women-led firms bested the S&P 500 performance by a whopping 226 percent!

Better Employee Engagement

Women-led companies are better for employees. A comprehensive study and survey taken by Peakon, a real-time HR engagement platform, shows that women in leadership roles inspire employees to excel in critical ways. Companies with women at the helm have better communication when it comes to a company’s mission. Women leaders are also more adept at inspiring belief in their products or services compared to males in leadership roles. Employees at women-led companies are more engaged, and they are more satisfied with their working environment (including work-from-home situations).

More Diversity

Women-led companies foster more diversity in the workplace, from leadership roles and mid-management to entry-level positions. Numerous studies over the past decade confirm that greater diversity in a company’s workforce leads to greater productivity, better innovation, higher employee retention and satisfaction, and improved decision-making. In 2018, Forbes reported that diverse companies produce 19% more revenue due to innovation, thanks to a study from Boston Consulting Group (BCG).
