AZAM AND CLAUDIA MIRZA HONORED WITH IMMIGRANT ENTREPRENEUR AWARD
PLANO, Texas – June 18, 2015 – Azam and Claudia Mirza, President and CEO of Akorbi, were honored with the Immigrant Entrepreneur Award on June 12th at The Immigrant Journey Awards luncheon hosted by Cowles & Thompson, P.C. at the Prestonwood Country Club in Dallas in celebration of Immigrant Heritage Month. Community leaders, entrepreneurs and executives gathered to honor them for their exceptional leadership in business, for serving as role models and for inspiring others.
According to Cowles & Thompson, “America is the great country it is today because it was founded by individuals who became Americans by choice. Their ideas, creativity, strengths and determination built a nation that continues to welcome and utilize the talents of those who are inspired by this country’s promise. In turn, their achievements have become a source of inspiration to others.”
Azam and Claudia launched Akorbi in 2003 as a translation service company. Under their leadership, vision and tenacity, it evolved from a home-based business to a multi-million dollar global business solutions company with more than 600 full-time and part-time employees worldwide. The company has experienced impressive 200%+ growth in recent years as they’ve continued to expand their multilingual service offerings to include interpretation, staffing and business process outsourcing. The company’s impressive client base includes Aetna, Anthem, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Leigh Hanson, and Garland ISD, among many others.
“We are truly honored to receive the Immigrant Entrepreneur Award and to inspire others, regardless of their country of origin, to live the American Dream,” said Azam Mirza, President of Akorbi. “This amazing country really is the Land of Opportunity where we can achieve anything through hard work and dedication.”
“Growing up in poverty in Colombia gives me a great sense of gratitude for the opportunities the U.S. offers,” said Claudia Mirza, CEO of Akorbi. “It also makes me committed to giving back and helping others achieve their dreams, which is why Azam and I fund the education of young people in our home countries of India and Colombia.”
