PLANO, TEXAS – AUGUST 24, 2018
Akorbi’s office in Colombia (Akorbi S.A.S) has proudly become part of a select group of women-owned companies that’s able to compete in global markets through the Women’s Business Enterprise’s prestigious WEConnect International certification. Only 44 other companies in Colombia have obtained this certification, which will allow Akorbi S.A.S. to offer its translation, multilingual communication and staffing services to any entity with a global footprint.
Akorbi has had a significant presence in Colombia since 2015. Recently, through the Cartago Chamber of Commerce, Akorbi S.A.S had the opportunity to meet the newly elected President, Ivan Duque and his Vice-President, Marta Lucia Ramirez, to present ways to empower the Colombian economy through digital technology, research and development and multilingual communications.
Akorbi S.A.S’ team is well positioned to mentor other women in business in the region and to serve local governments as a pioneer in remote regions of Colombia within the Orange Economy, which is focused on digital technology, culture and creativity. The Colombian economy has a highly-educated workforce, solid infrastructure and government support, making it the third largest GDP in South America.
According to the Colombian Embassy in Washington, “Investor confidence and commercial ties with major world economies are on the rise. Foreign direct investment (FDI) has increased fivefold and exports have increased fourfold since 2000. Colombia’s economy has been growing steadily and faster than the Latin American average, and the nation is quickly becoming one of the world’s leading emerging economies.”.
Akorbi S.A.S has grown consistently since 2015, showing a strong commitment to regional development. Sixty-two percent of its team members are local women and 25% of them are mothers whose jobs support their families and the education of their children.
“The WEConnect International certification will open many doors and allow us to continue creating opportunities and jobs in Colombia,” said Claudia Mirza, CEO and co-founder of Akorbi. “We are very grateful for the Women’s Business Enterprise’s support and their dedication to connecting women-owned businesses around the world.”
